You know the saying… “Nature Abhors a Vacuum”? Well it’s true. The time I once spent on the board of the Highlands Historical Society has been transferred to volunteering on a board that has been tasked with bringing an exciting international art exhibition and conference in 2020 to St Albert / Edmonton.

It’s quite interesting to be part of this process from the ground up. The parent organization, the International Society of Experimental Artists, aka ISEA, has been around for 29 years. Although they did venture outside their U.S. base one year in Wales, this is their first time in Canada.

ISEA explains the following on their web site:  “What is an experimental artist? They explore, learn, and apply new techniques, new composition approaches, or new concepts to create their art which can be realistic or abstract.”

This is an exciting event for artists. It gives them the opportunity to network with other artists, submit their work for possible inclusion in the juried show, win prizes, and take workshops from curated presenters.

It’s also an exciting event for people who simply love art. They can attend the opening exhibition and be part of the festivities themselves by being a volunteer.

Here’s a few dates for you to keep in mind:

  • ISEA’s 29th Annual Open Juried Exhibition of Experimental Art at the Art Gallery of St. Albert from August 20th to October 24th, 2020.
  • Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony for the exhibition on Thursday September 3rd, 2020
  • Workshops, Demonstrations, and Presentations for artists of all experience levels from August 29th to September 3rd, 2020.

If you’d like more information as it becomes available, simply sign up to be on our newsfeed.     Pushingboudaries.com

I’ll be writing more about this event on my blog as time goes on. It’s a great opportunity for the arts in Alberta.
