Crawford House at Christmas

Christmas Decorating Inspiration

Every year I buy a couple of magazines to inspire me to decorate our 103 year old house at Christmas. It takes me two or three days to do it all so magazines give me the right push to get started.

I thought I’d share some of my favorite images that did not come from magazines – but from a home in Alberta.

The Crawford House is a 1912 house in Calgary Alberta. This home was featured in my book “Historical Homes of Alberta – A Guide to Restoring and Decorating your Heritage Home”. Unfortunately the home was one of those affected by the terrible flood a couple of years ago and I haven’t seen it since.

I love the look of this window from the outside. I like taking my dog for a walk in the neighbourhood and looking at the lights from inside the homes.

There’s nothing like snow to turn a yard into a magical Winterland.

I’ve added a photo of our dining room. Maybe this year I will take photos of the rest of the house at Christmas. There’s something about an old house that suits a bit of over-the-top decorating at this time of year.

Thanks you for reading this blog entry. I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and remember the Reason for the Season.

  1. I always enjoy your blog, Johanne. Love your dining room, especially your window decorations and plaid table cloth. I’m with you–I like to see over the top decorations in old homes. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  2. Beautiful images, Johanne. The Crawford House is a classic and, judging from your dining room, your home is every bit as lovely. Can’t wait to see more of it. 🙂 Wishing you a very merry Christmas and all the best for 2016! Lorie

    1. Thank you! I just received an email from the owner of the Crawford House. He told me his home (before and after the flood) has been featured in Arabella Magazine. I plan on getting a copy myself – it’s an excellent magazine for lovers of antiques and art. Merry Christmas and thanks for reading my blog.
